General information

In the center of the island is the granite Exombourgo hill. An impressive and steep rock on which we find the ruins of the Venetian St. Helena castle. The name comes from the village that exists outside the castle (bourgo) exo-bourgo. In 2007, around the perimeter of the hill around 70 climbing routes were opened, which are divided into 9 sectors. Routes were opened in alphabetical order by Nikos Hatzis, Dimitra Klaoudatou, George Koutsoukis, Thomas Michaelides, Vassilis Mitsios, Aris Theodoropoulos, D. Titopoulos, John Torelli. Andreas Koutroubis was the project manager of this work.

Features

The material of the rock is a good quality granite, which means very good "clicks" in climbing. Although attention is required on some routes, where mosses are quite slippery. The routes are ranging from 5a to 7b, but mostly are between 6a-6c, ideal for the majority of climbers. There is a great variation of climbing routes (cracks, negative slope, roofs, peel and dihedrals). All routes are fully equipped with stainless steel plugs - rings.

Season

Although the most appropriate time to climb is spring and autumn one can climb even in winter or summer. This is because the routes are spread out around Exombourgo, so there is always some routes ideal for any season. Usually the problem with climbing at Exombourgo is the wind, always present on the island throughout the year. No wonder why Tinos has been characterized the island of winds. But as windy it may be, there are always some areas in Exombourgo which are nearly calm. So, depending on the wind and temperature, here is a list of the appropriate sectors to choose from:

Sector 1 : Exposed to the winds, permanent shade, proposed for summer.

Sector 2 : Exposed to the winds, permanent shade, proposed for summer.

Sector 3: Exposed to the winds, quit exposed to the sun, proposed for autumn or spring.

Sector 4: Quite exposed to the winds, quit exposed to the sun, proposed for autumn or spring.

Sector 5: Pretty sheltered from the winds, exposed to the sun, proposed for autumn, spring or winter.

Sector 6: Pretty sheltered from the winds, exposed to the sun, proposed for autumn, spring or winter.

Sector 7: Pretty sheltered from the winds, exposed to the sun, proposed for autumn, spring or winter.

Sector 8: Pretty sheltered from the wind with plenty of shade, proposed for summer.

Sector 9: Suitable for northerly wind, exposed to the sun, proposed for autumn or spring.

Tip: The most appropriate area for beginners and for those who visit first time Tinos and want to climb at Exomvourgo, would be Sector 5 and 6 as it is sheltered from south winds, easy, with beautiful routes and plenty of space for relaxation.
